Writing Terms Explained + Writing Update

Hello Readers!

I'd like to start this post with an apology for falling off the blogosphere for so long. Life has been crazy busy, but I'm happy to say that I finished school! Somehow I managed amid everything going on. I'm super happy to be free of that and be able to dedicate more time to harp, writing, and here, with all you wonderful people. 😉

I've been realizing that there is a writing language, and when I speak it, I throw off my dad and other members of my family. For the sake of all the readers, who are not writers, and the readers who are writers in need of a refresher course, this post is for you!

***

MC: Main Character. The main character is the one the story focuses on. (Not Master of Ceremonies 😆)

FMC: Female Main Character

MMC: Male Main Character

WIP: Work In Progress. A WIP for a writer in the current writing project that they are working on. So my current WIP is going by the title J.B. for the moment. (Don't worry, we're not whipping *anyone or *anything.😂)

(*Not to say that writers never whip characters, just saying that we are not whipping real people)

POV: Point Of View. We usually use this in reference to a POV character; meaning the character from whom you are seeing the story or scene.

Plot Bunny: A plot bunny pretty much means that as you were plotting another idea semi-related to your plot popped up, thereby distracting you from the main story. I guess it's like when you're looking up one thing and go down a 'bunny trail.' (No, we don't plot for or against bunnies. I'd say most writers love bunnies.)

1st Person: 1st person would be me telling you a story about me.

2nd Person: 2nd person is talking about you! You are doing something. (A friend of mine is writing a story in 2nd person, and it's very intriguing. You can check out her blog here Winter Flower~ Waiting for Spring)

3rd Person Omniscient: 3rd person omniscient means that someone outside the story is telling the story. When the author wants to give you insight as to what a character is thinking they will italicize it so you don't get confused.

3rd Person Limited: 3rd person limited means that you're only seeing one, maybe two views. You only know as much as the character. It's more personal and the character's thoughts are not italicized.

And that wraps up writing definitions!

I thought I'd close up this post with a few ideas for my blog that I'm super excited about, and a writing update.

Idea 1: I'm going to be adding a 'This Day in History' box on the side, probably sometime next week.

Idea 2: In September, I'm going to start a series of posts on why I write Historical Fiction and why I think it's important. I might try to interview/chat with other Historical Fiction authors/writers.

Idea 3: In October I'm going to do a series of posts on different people from the Reformation. The Reformation is by far my favorite era in history, I'm super excited about this!

Idea 4: You may have noticed the heading graphic at the top of this post, (if you didn't feel free to scroll up and look at it.) I'm going to use that as my header for posts from now on. It'll basically just have the title of the post. I'm really excited about it. For some reason, it feels more professional. *shrugs*

Everlasting Gold Update: I have not republished it yet. It is almost ready. I need to talk over the Historical Note that I'm adding in the back with Daddy and then I will republish.

NaNoWriMo: Yes, I still plan on doing this. I finally picked an idea and I'm working on research and plotting. So far it's slow, but I'm hoping as I continue to work things will fall into place.

I think that's it; I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Blessings,

Mattie May, The Blossoming Writer
